General abbreviations have emerged due to the fact that an advertiser wants to tell a potential buyer as much about the property in the least number of words. Here are some abbreviations most commonly used:
TLC – Tender loving care. The property needs attention.
DIY – Do it yourself. The property needs a lift from a new owner who can do the repairs, indicating that it would be less expensive to improve a property.
D/room or Double bedroom – It’s an indication that the rooms are large enough for a double bed to fit in.
Fitted bedrooms - Bedrooms with built in cupboards.
Mes – Main en-suite. It refers to a bathroom that is en-suite to the main bedroom.
BIC – Built in cupboards.
Full bathroom – The bathroom has a bath and a shower built in as well as a washbasin and toilet.
½ Bathrooms – A bathroom consisting of only a shower, washbasin and a toilet.
UCO – Refer to an under counter oven.
ELO – Eye level oven.
SQ – Servants/staff quarters
Zoning – The purposes for which the property/land may be used according to the municipality eg Business 1 or Residential 3
A/C – Air condition
A/S – Alarm system
POA – Price on application
UCP – Undercover parking
Dbl garage – Double garage
Tandem garage – A double garage where two cars fit in behind each other.
