Advertising abbreviations in the printed media

General abbreviations have emerged due to the fact that an advertiser wants to tell a potential buyer as much about the property in the least number of words. Here are some abbreviations most commonly used:

TLC – Tender loving care. The property needs attention.
DIY – Do it yourself. The property needs a lift from a new owner who can do the repairs, indicating that it would be less expensive to improve a property.
D/room or Double bedroom – It’s an indication that the rooms are large enough for a double bed to fit in.
Fitted bedrooms - Bedrooms with built in cupboards.
Mes – Main en-suite. It refers to a bathroom that is en-suite to the main bedroom.
BIC – Built in cupboards.
Full bathroom – The bathroom has a bath and a shower built in as well as a washbasin and toilet.
½ Bathrooms – A bathroom consisting of only a shower, washbasin and a toilet.
UCO – Refer to an under counter oven.
